How to tell if a club is still active
Directories are full of "ghost groups" that stopped meeting years ago. Before you show up, run these quick checks:
- Look for a dated event in the next 30 days — not just a description.
- Check the last post or photo. Anything older than three months is a warning sign.
- Message an organizer and ask what a first visit looks like. Active clubs reply within a few days.
- Count recent attendees where the platform shows RSVPs. Five or more regulars usually means real momentum.
Online, in person, or hybrid?
In-person clubs build stronger friendships and accountability; online clubs win on convenience and niche topics. Many of the healthiest clubs now run a hybrid rhythm — a monthly in-person meetup plus a weekly online thread. Read our full comparison in Online vs in-person clubs.
